She was brought up in New Jersey until the age of 14. Sunil Shetty invited her to dance on stage in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA when she was barely 14. Big B who was there too encouraged her father to take her to Bollywood. As a result, she did her first film Paagalpan in Hindi in 2001 but it was not a hit. She then went to Tollywood. She did her first Tollywood movie Nuvvu Naaku Nachav with Telugu actor Venkatesh in 2001, which was more successful. She became a big craze among the youth because of her charisma in Nuvvu naku nachav. But this seemed to evade gradually- just another example of actresses vulnerability from stardom to failure. She has the rare distinction of being cast with tollywood "fabfour"-Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Balakrishna and Venkatesh. She has also acted with young dynamic heroes like Mahesh, NTR, RaviTeja, etc.
            She has acted in 5 simultaneous movies directed by ace director B.Gopal.  She also starred opposite Venkatesh for 3 films and all were incidentally good hits. She met with an accident under mysterious circumstances allegedly tripping over the steps. She had been hospitalised as it was very serious.
            The Event where Sunil Shetty invited to the stage was at Nassa Colliseum,in New york city and NOT Philadelphia as reported.Basically at the end of the bollywood award night, Sunil asked for volunteers from the audience and Atri was one among them.
